The Merritt biomass facility will consume 307,000 metric tons of biomass a year. It will convert sawmill and logging waste from the British Columbia forestry industry, as well as trees killed by the mountain pine beetle epidemic, into electricity.

Once commissioned, the power plant will have the capacity to supply electricity to upwards of 80,000 homes in the province, as well as reduce CO2 emissions for the province by 250,000 tonnes annually.

The 40MW biomass power plant is located in the British Columbia southern interior and is one of the largest Biomass Power Plants in North America.
